Herpesin Krém (Aciclovir)

Herpesin Krém is indicated for the topical treatment of herpes simplex virus infections that appear on the skin or mucous membranes. It is commonly used to manage the following conditions:

• Cold sores (herpes simplex labialis) on the lips or perioral area.
• Genital herpes lesions caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 or type 2.
• Herpetic eczema or secondary bacterial infection of herpes lesions.
• Post‑herpetic erythema or mild inflammation after an outbreak.
• Small, localized herpes lesions in immunocompetent adults.

• Aciclovir, the active component of Herpesin Krém, is a nucleoside analogue that is selectively phosphorylated by viral thymidine kinase after topical absorption. The resulting aciclovir monophosphate is further converted to the triphosphate form, which competitively inhibits viral DNA polymerase. This blocks viral DNA chain elongation and prevents replication of herpes simplex virus within infected epithelial cells, limiting lesion development in the treated area.

Adverse reactions to Herpesin Krém are generally mild and limited to the application site, but rare serious events have been reported.

Common

• Mild burning or stinging sensation at the site of application.
• Transient itching or mild irritation.
• Redness (erythema) of the skin around the treated area.
• Dryness or peeling of the skin.

Serious

• Allergic contact dermatitis with swelling, vesicles, or rash.
• Severe skin ulceration or necrosis at the application site.
• Systemic hypersensitivity reactions such as urticaria or angio‑edema (very rare).
