Koortslipcrème Aciclovir Htp (Aciclovir)

Aciclovir cream is an antiviral agent used to manage infections caused by the herpes simplex virus.

• Herpes simplex labialis: reduces healing time and pain of cold sores on the lips.
• Herpes simplex facial skin infection: treats lesions on the face and surrounding skin, limiting spread.
• Herpes simplex skin infections: treats lesions on non‑genital skin caused by HSV, promoting faster resolution.

• After topical application, aciclovir is preferentially taken up by virus‑infected cells and phosphorylated by viral thymidine kinase to aciclovir monophosphate, then to aciclovir triphosphate. The triphosphate competitively inhibits viral DNA polymerase and causes premature chain termination, thereby blocking viral DNA synthesis.

Aciclovir cream may cause local or systemic adverse reactions, most of which are mild and reversible.

Common Side Effects

• Local itching: mild itching at the application site.
• Burning sensation: transient burning or stinging after application.
• Redness: mild erythema around the treated area.
• Dryness: skin dryness or flaking where cream is applied.

Serious or Rare Side Effects
