Oftalmolosa Cusí (Gentamicin)

Oftalmolosa Cusí contains gentamicin, an aminoglycoside that acts on bacterial pathogens affecting the eye.

• Bacterial conjunctivitis: reduces bacterial load and alleviates redness and discharge.
• Keratitis: helps eradicate the infecting organisms and promotes corneal healing.
• Blepharitis: controls bacterial overgrowth on the eyelid margin, decreasing inflammation.
• Post‑surgical ocular prophylaxis: lowers the risk of infection after eye surgery.
• External ocular surface infections: treats superficial infections of the cornea and conjunctiva.

• Gentamicin binds to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, interfering with the initiation of protein synthesis and causing misreading of mRNA. This disruption leads to defective bacterial proteins and ultimately bacterial cell death, providing a bactericidal effect against susceptible Gram‑negative and Gram‑positive organisms in ocular tissues.

Gentilec eye drops may introduce local ocular reactions, though most patients tolerate the formulation well.

Common Side Effects

• Burning sensation: mild irritation at the site of instillation.
• Redness: transient hyperemia of the conjunctiva.
• Tearing: increased lacrimation following application.
• Foreign‑body sensation: feeling of grit in the eye.
• Itching: mild pruritus of the eyelid margin.
• Mild discomfort: temporary stinging.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Corneal ulceration: progressive loss of corneal tissue.
• Severe allergic reaction: swelling, hives, or anaphylaxis.
