Glika (Gliclazide)

Glika is indicated for the management of blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

• Used as initial monotherapy when diet, exercise, and weight management do not achieve target glycemic control.
• Added to metformin therapy when metformin alone fails to maintain desired HbA1c levels.
• Combined with other oral antidiabetic agents such as DPP‑4 inhibitors or SGLT2 inhibitors for complementary glucose‑lowering effects.

• Gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea, abdominal pain, or dyspepsia.
• Central nervous system symptoms including headache, dizziness, or fatigue.
• Transient visual disturbances such as blurred vision or photophobia.
• Weight gain due to increased insulin activity and caloric storage.

Serious

• Severe hypoglycemia that can lead to loss of consciousness, seizures, or requires emergency assistance.
• Allergic reactions ranging from skin rash and pruritus to angioedema or anaphylaxis.
• Hepatic or pancreatic injury manifested by jaundice, elevated liver enzymes, or pancreatitis symptoms.
• Blood dyscrasias including leukopenia, neutropenia, or thrombocytopenia.

Before prescribing Glika, clinicians should evaluate several patient‑specific factors to minimize risks and ensure safe use.

• Assess renal and hepatic function, as impairment may affect drug clearance.
• Perform baseline and periodic blood glucose monitoring to detect hypoglycemia early.
