Glipox (Imatinib)

Glipox (imatinib) is indicated for the treatment of specific malignancies where abnormal tyrosine kinase activity drives disease progression.

• Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), including newly diagnosed and accelerated phases.
• Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) that is unresectable, metastatic, or recurrent.
• Certain rare tumors that express the BCR‑ABL fusion protein.
• Off‑label use in selected cases of Philadelphia chromosome‑positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia under specialist guidance.
• As part of combination therapy for selected solid tumors in clinical trials.

Glipox may cause a range of adverse effects; they are categorized by frequency and clinical significance.

Common

• Fatigue or weakness.
• Nausea, vomiting or loss of appetite.
• Fluid retention causing peripheral edema.

Serious

• Low blood cell counts such as neutropenia or thrombocytopenia.
• Liver enzyme elevations indicating possible hepatotoxicity.
• Severe skin reactions including Stevens‑Johnson syndrome.

Before initiating Glipox, clinicians should evaluate several safety considerations to minimize risk.

• Baseline complete blood count and liver function tests are recommended.
• Monitor blood counts regularly during therapy for cytopenias.
• Assess cardiac function in patients with pre‑existing heart disease.
• Use caution in patients with renal impairment; dose adjustment may be required.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding status should be reviewed, as safety data are limited.
