Glurenorm (Gliquidone)

Glurenorm (gliquidone) is indicated for the oral management of hyperglycemia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet, exercise, and other non‑pharmacologic measures are insufficient.

• Used as monotherapy in patients newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
• Added to metformin or other oral agents when glycemic control is inadequate.
• May be prescribed when insulin therapy is not yet required.

Serious

• Severe hypoglycemia leading to loss of consciousness or seizures.
• Allergic reactions such as skin rash, pruritus, or angio‑edema.
• Hepatic dysfunction manifested by jaundice or elevated liver enzymes.

When prescribing Glurenorm, clinicians should evaluate several patient‑specific factors to minimize risk and ensure safe use.

• Assess renal and hepatic function before initiation and periodically during therapy.
• Use lower starting doses in elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function.
• Monitor blood glucose closely to detect hypoglycemia, especially during dose adjustments.
• Advise patients to maintain regular meal patterns and avoid excessive alcohol consumption.

Avoid
