Helex (Alprazolam)

Helex is indicated for the short‑term management of anxiety‑related conditions in adults.

• Treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
• Management of panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia
• Adjunct therapy for anxiety symptoms associated with depressive disorders
• Short‑term relief of acute anxiety episodes
• May be prescribed when other anxiolytics are not suitable

Helex can cause a range of side effects, some of which are more frequent than others.

Common

• Drowsiness or sedation
• Fatigue and weakness
• Dizziness or light‑headedness
• Impaired coordination or balance
• Memory difficulties or concentration problems
• Dry mouth or gastrointestinal discomfort

Serious

• Depression or suicidal thoughts
• Severe respiratory depression
• Allergic reactions such as rash, swelling, or anaphylaxis
• Paradoxical agitation or aggression
• Dependence, tolerance, or withdrawal syndrome
• Significant changes in mood or behavior

Before starting Helex, consider the following safety points.

• Use only under medical supervision; it is a prescription‑only medication.
• Avoid use during pregnancy unless clearly needed, as it is classified Category D.
• Do not combine with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants.
• Caution is advised in patients with a history of substance abuse or dependence.
• Monitor for signs of depression, suicidal ideation, or worsening anxiety.
• Adjust dose in elderly patients or those with hepatic impairment.
• Discontinue gradually under physician guidance to reduce withdrawal risk.

Helex may interact with several other substances; some should be avoided while others require careful monitoring.

Avoid

• Alcohol and other CNS depressants (e.g., opioids, antihistamines)
• Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, or ritonavir
• Grapefruit juice, which can increase alprazolam levels

• Other benzodiazepines or sedative‑hypnotics
• Antidepressants, especially SSRIs and SNRIs
• Anticonvulsants that affect hepatic enzymes (e.g., carbamazepine, phenytoin)
