Like other iron preparations, Hemafer may cause side effects that vary in frequency and severity.

Common

• Nausea, abdominal discomfort, or a feeling of fullness after taking the supplement.
• Constipation, diarrhea, or loose stools that may occur with regular use.
• Dark or black-colored stools, which are harmless and reflect unabsorbed iron.
• A metallic or bitter taste in the mouth during or shortly after ingestion.

Serious

• Signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, or throat, or difficulty breathing.
