Hermix is prescribed for the treatment of viral infections that involve herpes viruses.

• Aciclovir, the active component of Hermix, is a nucleoside analogue that is selectively phosphorylated by viral thymidine kinase in infected cells. The monophosphate is then converted by cellular enzymes to aciclovir triphosphate, which competitively inhibits viral DNA polymerase and terminates DNA chain elongation. Because the drug requires viral kinase for activation, it preferentially targets replicating herpesvirus‑infected cells while sparing uninfected host tissue.

Like most antiviral agents, Hermix may cause adverse reactions, which are usually mild, reversible, and dose‑related, while serious events are uncommon but require prompt medical evaluation.

Common

• Nausea or upset stomach, usually mild and transient, often resolves without treatment.
• Headache of mild to moderate intensity, typically improves with hydration or simple analgesics.
• Diarrhea, generally self‑limiting and watery, may occur intermittently during therapy.
• Mild skin rash (erythema or itching) on trunk or limbs, usually does not require stopping the drug.

Serious

• Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis or angioedema) with breathing difficulty or facial swelling, needing emergency care.
• Hepatic dysfunction, indicated by elevated liver enzymes or jaundice, may require drug discontinuation.
• Acute kidney injury, especially in patients with existing renal problems, presenting as reduced urine output or rising creatinine.

Precautions should be observed when prescribing Hermix to ensure safe use and to minimize the risk of adverse outcomes.
