Herpesin (Aciclovir)

Herpesin is indicated for the topical treatment of infections caused by herpes simplex virus, providing a locally acting antiviral option for skin and mucous membrane lesions.

• Cold sores (herpes labialis) on the lips or perioral skin, applied at the first sign of tingling or redness.
• Genital herpes lesions on external genitalia, used to reduce symptom duration and viral shedding.
• Herpetic keratitis when applied under ophthalmic supervision, as part of a prescribed regimen.
• Recurrent herpes infections on the face, neck, or other cutaneous sites, to limit lesion spread.
• Post‑exposure prophylaxis for susceptible skin after known exposure to HSV, when recommended by a healthcare professional.

• Aciclovir, the active component of Herpesin, is a nucleoside analogue that is selectively phosphorylated by viral thymidine kinase. The resulting aciclovir monophosphate is further converted by cellular enzymes to the triphosphate form, which competitively inhibits viral DNA polymerase. This inhibition blocks the elongation of viral DNA chains, preventing replication of herpes simplex virus within infected cells while sparing host DNA synthesis.

Topical aciclovir may cause local skin reactions; most are mild and reversible, while rare events can be more serious.

Common

When using Herpesin, certain precautions help minimize risks and ensure safe application.

• Do not apply to broken skin, open wounds, or mucous membranes unless directed by a clinician.
• Avoid contact with eyes; if accidental exposure occurs, rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical advice.
• Wash hands before and after each application to prevent spread of infection.
• Discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional if a rash or severe irritation develops.
• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture.

Herpesin applied to the skin can interact with other topical agents or systemic medications that affect viral replication or skin integrity.

Avoid

• Concurrent use of other antiviral creams containing penciclovir or famciclovir on the same area.
• Topical products that contain irritants such as strong corticosteroids or retinoids without medical supervision.

Use with caution
