Herzass (Acetylsalicylic Acid)

Herzass is indicated for several common clinical situations where pain, fever, inflammation, or platelet aggregation need to be managed.

• Relief of mild to moderate pain such as headache, toothache, menstrual cramps, or musculoskeletal discomfort.
• Reduction of fever associated with infections or inflammatory conditions.
• Decrease of inflammation in conditions like arthritis or minor soft‑tissue injuries.
• Low‑dose antiplatelet therapy for secondary prevention of myocardial infarction, stroke, or peripheral arterial disease.
• Adjunctive therapy in combination with other analgesics for enhanced pain control.
• Management of acute coronary syndrome as part of early antithrombotic regimen.

• Acetylsalicylic acid irreversibly acetylates the serine residue of cyclooxygenase‑1 (COX‑1) in platelets and other cells, preventing conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2. This blocks synthesis of prostaglandins that mediate pain, fever, and inflammation, and reduces thromboxane A2, a key promoter of platelet aggregation. Because platelets lack nuclei, the COX‑1 inhibition lasts for the platelet’s 7‑10‑day lifespan, providing sustained antiplatelet effect.

Herzass may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and dose‑related, while rare events can be serious.

Common

• Gastrointestinal discomfort such as dyspepsia or nausea.
• Minor bruising or prolonged bleeding from cuts.
• Headache.
• Dizziness.
• Tinnitus, especially at higher doses.

Serious

• Gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding.
• Severe allergic reactions including angioedema or anaphylaxis.
• Hemorrhagic stroke.
• Renal impairment.
• Reye’s syndrome in children with viral illness.

Before using Herzass, certain health conditions and patient factors should be evaluated to minimize risk.

• History of peptic ulcer disease or gastrointestinal bleeding.
• Known hypersensitivity to aspirin or other NSAIDs.
• Aspirin‑exacerbated respiratory disease (asthma triggered by NSAIDs).
• Severe renal or hepatic impairment.
• Pregnancy, especially the third trimester, due to potential fetal risks.
• Concurrent use of anticoagulants or other antiplatelet agents.
• Use in children or teenagers with viral infections because of the risk of Reye’s syndrome.

Herzass can interact with other medicines, altering efficacy or safety.

Avoid

• Other NSAIDs or salicylates (increased toxicity).
• Anticoagulants such as warfarin (enhanced bleeding risk).
• Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (higher bleeding risk).
• Methotrexate (reduced clearance, increased toxicity).
• Corticosteroids (greater risk of gastrointestinal ulceration).

Use with caution

• ACE inhibitors or ARBs (possible renal effects).
• Diuretics (altered kidney function).
• Antihypertensives (may lower blood pressure).
• Oral contraceptives (increased clot risk).
• Lithium (higher serum concentrations).
