Herzass (Acetylsalicylic Acid)

Herzass is commonly used for several short‑term therapeutic purposes related to pain, fever, inflammation, and cardiovascular risk reduction.

• Relief of mild to moderate headache, toothache, or musculoskeletal pain.
• Reduction of fever associated with common infections or inflammatory conditions.
• Management of minor inflammatory complaints such as sore throat or minor joint discomfort.
• Prevention of arterial thrombosis in individuals at risk for myocardial infarction or ischemic stroke, when recommended by a healthcare professional.

• Acetylsalicylic acid exerts its pharmacologic effect by irreversibly acetylating the cyclooxygenase‑1 (COX‑1) enzyme in platelets and other cells. This modification blocks the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2, thereby decreasing the synthesis of thromboxane A2, a potent promoter of platelet aggregation, as well as reducing prostaglandin-mediated pain, fever, and inflammation pathways. Because COX‑1 inhibition is permanent for the lifespan of the platelet, the antiplatelet effect persists for several days after a single dose.

Like other NSAIDs, acetylsalicylic acid can cause adverse reactions that vary in frequency and severity.

Common

• Upset stomach, nausea, or indigestion.

• Minor bruising or prolonged bleeding from cuts.
• Skin rash or mild itching.

Serious

• Gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding.

When considering Herzass, several precautionary measures should be reviewed to minimize risk.

• Avoid use in individuals with known hypersensitivity to aspirin or other NSAIDs.
• Do not use in children or teenagers with viral infections due to risk of Reye’s syndrome.
• Caution in patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, or chronic kidney disease.
• Assess bleeding risk before use in patients on anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, or with coagulation disorders.
• Limit use during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, unless directed by a physician.
• Discontinue before planned surgery to reduce intra‑operative bleeding.

Herzass may interact with other medicines, altering its effectiveness or increasing the chance of adverse effects.

Avoid

• Concurrent use with other NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen) due to additive gastrointestinal toxicity.
• Combination with anticoagulants such as warfarin or direct oral anticoagulants, which can markedly increase bleeding risk.
