Heviran (Aciclovir)

Heviran is prescribed for several viral infections caused by herpes viruses. It is commonly used in clinical practice for the following conditions:

• Aciclovir, the active component of Heviran, is a nucleoside analogue that is selectively phosphorylated by viral thymidine kinase. The resulting triphosphate form competitively inhibits viral DNA polymerase, leading to termination of viral DNA chain elongation and preventing synthesis of new viral genomes, thereby limiting viral replication within infected cells.
