Heviran Comfort (Aciclovir)

Heviran Comfort is indicated for the topical treatment of skin infections caused by herpes viruses, where localized lesions benefit from direct antiviral application.

• Herpes simplex labialis (cold sores) affecting the lips or adjacent facial skin, applied at the first sign of vesicle formation.
• Genital herpes lesions on the external genitalia or perianal area, used to reduce lesion duration and discomfort.
• Localized herpes zoster (shingles) skin eruptions, applied to individual vesicles to limit viral replication.
• Post‑exposure prophylaxis after minor skin contact with infectious material, to potentially prevent lesion development.

• Aciclovir, the active component of Heviran Comfort, is a nucleoside analogue that is phosphorylated by viral thymidine kinase after topical absorption. The monophosphate is then converted by cellular kinases to aciclovir triphosphate, which competitively inhibits viral DNA polymerase. This blocks the elongation of viral DNA chains, preventing replication of herpes simplex and varicella‑zoster viruses in the treated skin area.

Topical aciclovir may cause local skin reactions, although many users experience no irritation.

Common

• Mild burning or stinging sensation at the site of application, usually transient.
• Slight redness or erythema that resolves within a few hours.
• Itching or mild pruritus localized to the treated area.
• Dryness, flaking, or mild peeling of the skin where the cream is applied.

Serious

• Severe allergic dermatitis with swelling, redness, and possible blister formation.
• Contact urticaria (hives) developing around the area of use.
• Extensive skin blistering or bullae that may become crusted.
• Persistent pain, ulceration, or necrosis at the application site requiring medical attention.
• Systemic allergic reaction such as facial swelling or difficulty breathing, though extremely rare.

• Apply only to intact skin; avoid broken or ulcerated areas unless directed by a clinician.
• Do not use on mucous membranes, eyes, or genital mucosa without professional advice.
• Wash hands before and after application to prevent accidental spread to other body sites.
• Discontinue use and seek medical advice if a rash, swelling, or severe irritation develops.
• Keep the product out of reach of children; store at room temperature away from direct sunlight.

Topical aciclovir has limited systemic absorption, but certain substances may affect its safety or efficacy when used together.

Avoid

• Concurrent use of other antiviral creams containing penciclovir or idoxuridine on the same lesion.
