• Xylometazoline hydrochloride is a selective alpha‑adrenergic agonist that binds to α1‑ and α2‑receptors on the smooth muscle of nasal mucosal blood vessels. Activation of these receptors triggers vasoconstriction, which reduces blood flow to the nasal lining, decreasing edema and opening the airway. The resulting decongestion provides rapid, short‑term relief of nasal blockage without directly affecting the underlying cause of inflammation.

Like other nasal decongestants, Hexarhinal may cause local or systemic adverse reactions, most of which are mild and transient.
