Chlorhexidine gluconate binds to bacterial cell walls and precipitates cytoplasmic proteins, leading to loss of integrity and cell death. Benzyl alcohol contributes by denaturing proteins and further compromising membrane stability, enhancing the overall broad‑spectrum antimicrobial activity and provides sustained antimicrobial protection.
