Hexoral (Hexetidine)

Hexoral mouthwash is indicated for several common oral conditions where reduction of bacterial and fungal colonisation is desired.

• Hexetidine exerts its antiseptic activity by interacting with the lipid components of microbial cell membranes. This disruption increases membrane permeability, leading to loss of essential intracellular constituents and inhibition of metabolic processes. The resulting bacteriostatic and fungistatic effects limit the growth of Gram‑positive and Gram‑negative bacteria as well as yeasts in the oropharyngeal cavity. The action is localized and does not involve systemic absorption at normal use.

Oral rinsing with Hexoral may be associated with occasional local reactions; most are mild and transient.

Common

• A brief burning or tingling sensation in the mouth that resolves within minutes.
• A mild, temporary alteration of taste that disappears after rinsing.
• A short‑lasting feeling of dryness in the oral cavity.
• Minor irritation or redness of the oral mucosa that subsides quickly.

Serious

• Allergic contact dermatitis presenting as redness, itching, or rash around the lips or perioral area.
• Persistent swelling of the tongue, lips, or throat that may interfere with breathing or swallowing.
• Severe ulceration of the oral mucosa that does not improve with normal oral hygiene.

Before using Hexoral, consider the following precautions to ensure safe and appropriate use.

• Avoid use in children under six years of age unless advised by a healthcare professional.

Avoid
