Hexyon (Haemophilus Influenzae Type B Polysaccharide (Polyribosylribitol Phosphate), Diphtheria Toxoid, Teta)

Hexyon is used to actively immunize against multiple bacterial and viral pathogens in the pediatric population.

• Hexyon induces active immunity by presenting purified antigens from six pathogens to the immune system. The diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, pertussis proteins, inactivated poliovirus particles, Hib polysaccharide conjugated to a carrier protein, and hepatitis B surface antigen are taken up by antigen‑presenting cells, stimulating B‑cell antibody production and T‑cell–mediated memory, thereby providing long‑lasting protection.

Local and systemic reactions may occur after intramuscular injection of Hexyon.

Common

• Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site
• Low‑grade fever
• Irritability or fussiness in infants
• Mild headache

Serious

• Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
• High fever with seizures
• Guillain‑Barré syndrome or other neurological symptoms

Healthcare providers should evaluate the patient’s health status before administering Hexyon and observe standard vaccination precautions.

• Do not vaccinate if there is a known severe allergy to any component of the vaccine.
• Defer vaccination in the presence of moderate or severe acute illness.
• Use caution in infants with a history of seizures.
• Monitor the patient for at least 15 minutes after injection for immediate reactions.
• Discuss expected local reactions and fever with caregivers.
• Record the vaccine batch number and administration site for traceability.
• Follow local guidelines for spacing from other live vaccines when required.

Hexyon may interact with other immunizations or immunomodulating agents; appropriate timing should be considered.

Avoid
