Hibidil (Chlorhexidine Gluconate)

• Chlorhexidine gluconate exerts its antiseptic effect by binding to negatively charged bacterial cell walls and disrupting membrane integrity. The cationic molecule inserts into phospholipid bilayers, increasing permeability and causing leakage of intracellular ions and macromolecules. This loss of essential cellular components leads to rapid bacterial cell death. The action is concentration‑dependent and effective against Gram‑positive and Gram‑negative bacteria, some fungi, and enveloped viruses.

Adverse reactions to Hibidil are generally limited to the site of application, but systemic effects can occur rarely.

Common

Serious
