• Chlorhexidine gluconate, the active component of Hibiscrub, is a cationic bisbiguanide that binds to negatively charged bacterial cell membranes. The interaction disrupts membrane integrity, causing leakage of intracellular ions and macromolecules. This loss of essential cellular contents leads to rapid bacteriostatic activity at low concentrations and bactericidal effects at higher concentrations, affecting a broad spectrum of Gram‑positive and Gram‑negative organisms.

Adverse reactions to Hibiscrub are generally limited to the application site, but rare systemic effects have been reported.

Common
