• Amoxicillin is a β‑lactam antibiotic that exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to penicillin‑binding proteins (PBPs) located on the bacterial cell membrane. This binding inhibits the transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis, weakening the cell wall and leading to osmotic lysis of actively dividing bacteria. The drug is bactericidal against a broad range of Gram‑positive and some Gram‑negative organisms in susceptible strains.

• Monitor for signs of Clostridioides difficile infection during and after treatment.
