Hidrasec is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute watery diarrhea in adults and children when rapid control of intestinal fluid loss is desired.

• Racecadotril acts as a peripheral enkephalinase inhibitor. The elevated enkephalins bind to δ‑opioid receptors, which reduces cyclic AMP‑mediated chloride secretion and limits water and electrolyte loss into the lumen, thereby decreasing diarrheal output without affecting intestinal motility. The effect is confined to the gut, minimizing central nervous system involvement.

Adverse reactions to Hidrasec are generally mild and reversible, but rare serious events have been reported in clinical use.
