Hikomicron (Hydrocortisone)

Hikomicron is indicated for a range of inflammatory and allergic skin conditions where topical corticosteroid therapy is appropriate.

• Mild to moderate eczema (atopic dermatitis) affecting the face, limbs, or trunk.
• Contact dermatitis caused by irritants or allergens.
• Seborrheic dermatitis on scalp or facial areas.
• Psoriasis plaques that respond to low‑potency corticosteroids.
• Insect bite reactions with localized swelling and redness.
• Minor skin irritations such as rash or sunburn where inflammation control is desired.

• Hydrocortisone exerts its anti‑inflammatory effect by diffusing across cell membranes and binding to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors. The drug‑receptor complex translocates to the nucleus, where it interacts with glucocorticoid response elements on DNA, altering transcription of multiple genes. This results in decreased synthesis of pro‑inflammatory cytokines, prostaglandins, and leukotrienes, and suppresses the activity of immune cells such as lymphocytes and macrophages, thereby reducing swelling, redness, and itching.

Topical hydrocortisone may cause local or systemic adverse reactions, although many users experience no problems.

Common

• Mild skin irritation or burning sensation at the application site.
• Pruritus or itching that may persist despite treatment.
• Dryness or peeling of the treated skin.
• Slight erythema or redness beyond the target area.

Serious

• Signs of skin atrophy such as thinning, bruising, or visible blood vessels.
• Development of contact dermatitis or allergic reaction to the formulation.
• Systemic corticosteroid effects including adrenal suppression with extensive use.
• Secondary infection of the skin, including bacterial, fungal, or viral overgrowth.

Before using Hikomicron, consider the following precautions to minimize risks and ensure appropriate therapy.

• Avoid application on broken, infected, or ulcerated skin unless directed by a healthcare professional.
• Limit use to the prescribed area and duration; prolonged or widespread use can increase systemic absorption.
• Do not apply under occlusive dressings unless specifically instructed.
• Use caution in infants, young children, or patients with a history of skin thinning.

Avoid
