Hipotensil (Captopril)

Hipotensil is indicated for several cardiovascular and renal conditions where blood pressure control is essential.

• Captopril inhibits the angiotensin‑converting enzyme (ACE), which blocks the conversion of angiotensin I to the potent vasoconstrictor angiotensin II. This reduction decreases systemic vascular resistance and aldosterone secretion, leading to vasodilation, reduced sodium and water retention, and ultimately lower arterial pressure. The drug’s effect on the renin‑angiotensin‑aldosterone system (RAAS) underlies its antihypertensive and cardioprotective actions.

• Taste disturbances (metallic or salty taste).

• Dual ACE inhibitor or ARB therapy, which raises the risk of renal impairment and hyperkalaemia.

Use with caution

• Diuretics, especially thiazides, which may cause an initial drop in blood pressure.
• Antidiabetic agents, as improved renal perfusion can alter glucose control.
• Certain antibiotics (e.g., trimethoprim‑sulfamethoxazole) that affect potassium balance.
