• Amlodipine, the active component of Hipres, selectively inhibits the influx of calcium ions through L‑type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle and cardiac myocytes. This inhibition leads to relaxation of arterial smooth muscle, resulting in vasodilation, decreased peripheral vascular resistance, and a modest reduction in cardiac afterload. The net effect is lowered systemic blood pressure and reduced myocardial oxygen demand, which alleviates anginal symptoms.
