• Chondroitin polysulfate is a sulfated glycosaminoglycan that modulates the inflammatory response when applied to the skin. It interferes with the activity of inflammatory mediators such as histamine and prostaglandins, reduces vascular permeability, and inhibits proteolytic enzymes that contribute to tissue edema and bruising. These actions collectively help limit local swelling and promote resolution of superficial injuries.

Adverse reactions to Hirudoid are generally mild, but occasional more serious events have been reported.

Common

Serious

• Allergic contact dermatitis
• Urticaria or widespread rash
• Angioedema involving the face or neck
