Hirudoid (Mucopolysaccharide Polysulfuric Acid Ester)

Hirudoid gel is indicated for several superficial vascular and inflammatory skin conditions where localized swelling, bruising or clot formation occurs.

• Mucopolysaccharide polysulphate is a heparinoid that mimics the activity of heparin. When applied to the skin it binds to endothelial surfaces and inhibits several coagulation factors, reduces platelet aggregation, and promotes fibrinolysis. The combined anti‑thrombotic and anti‑inflammatory actions improve microcirculatory flow and limit the formation of fibrin deposits, thereby decreasing local swelling and pain. Additionally, the compound enhances the permeability of capillary walls, facilitating removal of excess interstitial fluid.

Topical application of Hirudoid may be associated with local skin reactions, although most users experience only mild and transient effects that resolve without treatment. Reported adverse events are generally limited to the area of contact and do not indicate systemic toxicity.

Common

• Mild erythema or redness at the application site, usually appearing within minutes and fading within hours.

Serious

• Contact dermatitis with pronounced swelling, vesicles or blisters, and possible oozing, may need corticosteroids.

• Rare necrotic skin lesions or ulceration at the application site require immediate discontinuation.
