Histafast (Fexofenadine Hydrochloride)

Histafast is indicated for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with certain allergic disorders.

• Relief of sneezing, nasal congestion, runny nose, and itchy or watery eyes caused by allergic rhinitis.
• Management of chronic idiopathic urticaria, including reduction of hives and itching.
• Treatment of seasonal (hay fever) allergy symptoms.
• Alleviation of perennial allergic rhinitis symptoms.
• Support for other histamine‑mediated skin reactions such as mild allergic dermatitis.

• Fexofenadine hydrochloride acts as a selective peripheral H1‑receptor antagonist. By binding to H1 receptors on mast cells, basophils, and other tissues, it blocks the action of histamine released during allergic responses. This inhibition prevents the cascade of events that lead to vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, and sensory nerve stimulation, thereby reducing the typical signs and symptoms of allergy without crossing the blood‑brain barrier to cause sedation.

Like all medications, Histafast may cause side effects, most of which are mild and reversible.

• Headache
• Dry mouth
• Fatigue or mild drowsiness
• Nausea or upset stomach
• Dizziness
• Mild insomnia

Serious

• Anaphylactic reaction (rare)
• Severe skin reactions such as Stevens‑Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis
• Cardiac arrhythmias (very rare)
• Significant liver enzyme elevation
• Persistent or severe swelling of the face, lips, or tongue

Before using Histafast, consider the following precautions.

• Do not use if you have a known hypersensitivity to fexofenadine or any component of the tablet.
• Use with caution in patients with severe renal impairment; dosage adjustment may be required.
• Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should consult a healthcare professional before use.
• Avoid operating machinery or driving if you experience dizziness or visual disturbances.
• Keep the medication out of reach of children to prevent accidental ingestion.
• Inform your doctor if you are taking other antihistamines or allergy medications.

Histafast can interact with several other substances; awareness helps maintain safety.

Avoid

• Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, which can reduce fexofenadine absorption.
• Ketoconazole, erythromycin, or other strong CYP3A4 inhibitors that may increase systemic exposure.
• Fruit juices such as apple, orange, or grapefruit that can markedly decrease bioavailability.
• Concurrent use of other H1 antihistamines without medical guidance.

Use with caution

• Alcohol, which may enhance drowsiness or dizziness.
• Sedative medications or central nervous system depressants.
• Drugs that prolong the QT interval, especially in patients with cardiac risk factors.
• Certain antidepressants or antipsychotics that affect cardiac conduction.
• Herbal supplements that may influence drug metabolism, such as St. John’s wort.
