Hitaxa, Hitaxa (Desloratadine)

Hitaxa (desloratadine) is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of several allergic conditions.

• Relief of nasal congestion, sneezing, itching and rhinorrhea associated with seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis.
• Management of chronic idiopathic urticaria, reducing the frequency and severity of hives and associated itching.
• Adjunct therapy for other histamine‑mediated skin reactions such as insect bites or mild drug eruptions.
• Use in patients who require a non‑sedating antihistamine for daytime symptom control.

• Desloratadine acts as a selective peripheral H1‑receptor antagonist. By binding to the histamine H1 receptor on mast cells, basophils and other target cells, it prevents histamine from triggering the intracellular signaling cascade that leads to vasodilation, increased vascular permeability and sensory nerve activation. The drug’s high affinity for peripheral receptors and limited ability to cross the blood‑brain barrier result in effective allergy symptom control with minimal central nervous system effects.

Like all antihistamines, desloratadine may cause adverse reactions, although many users experience none.

• Angioedema or severe swelling
• Rash with blistering or peeling (e.g., Stevens‑Johnson syndrome)

• Elderly patients may be more susceptible to sedation or cardiovascular effects.
• Avoid abrupt discontinuation if used for chronic urticaria; tapering may reduce rebound symptoms.
• Assess for concomitant use of other sedating agents that could enhance drowsiness.

Avoid
