Hjertemagnyl is prescribed primarily to lower the risk of serious cardiovascular events in patients with established disease or high risk. It is used as part of long‑term secondary prevention strategies.

• Acetylsalicylic acid exerts its antiplatelet effect by irreversibly acetylating the cyclooxygenase‑1 (COX‑1) enzyme in platelets. This modification blocks the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2, preventing the synthesis of thromboxane A2, a potent promoter of platelet aggregation and vasoconstriction. Because platelets cannot synthesize new COX‑1, the inhibitory effect persists for the lifespan of the platelet, typically 7–10 days.

Like other aspirin products, Hjertemagnyl may cause a range of adverse reactions, from mild and frequent to rare but serious.

Common

• Upset stomach, dyspepsia, or mild abdominal pain.

Serious
