Hoestbruistabletten are indicated for conditions where thinning of airway secretions is beneficial.

• Mucolysis in acute respiratory tract infections such as the common cold or influenza.

• Acetylcysteine acts as a thiol‑containing mucolytic. After oral absorption, it supplies cysteine, which reduces disulfide bonds within mucopolysaccharide fibers of mucus. This disruption lowers the molecular weight and viscosity of the secretions, making them less elastic and easier to transport by ciliary action and cough. The resulting thinner mucus can be cleared more efficiently from the respiratory tract. The effect is dose‑dependent and does not involve direct bronchodilation.

Like all mucolytic agents, Hoestbruistabletten may cause adverse reactions, most of which are mild and transient.

Common

• Unpleasant taste or lingering after‑taste that may cause temporary discomfort.
