Holginec (Clotrimazole)

Holginec is indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated vaginal candidiasis caused by susceptible Candida species.

• Clotrimazole exerts its antifungal activity by inhibiting the fungal enzyme lanosterol 14α‑demethylase, a cytochrome P450‑dependent protein essential for converting lanosterol to ergosterol. By blocking this step, clotrimazole disrupts ergosterol synthesis, leading to altered cell membrane permeability, accumulation of toxic sterol intermediates, and ultimately inhibition of fungal growth and replication within the vaginal epithelium. The drug remains localized, providing high concentrations at the site of infection while systemic absorption is minimal.

Adverse reactions to Holginec are generally mild and limited to the application site, but rare serious events have been reported.
