Holvir (Aciclovir)

Holvir is indicated for the topical treatment of herpes simplex virus infections affecting the skin. It is commonly used to manage lesions caused by the virus.

• Aciclovir, the active component of Holvir, is a nucleoside analogue that interferes with viral DNA synthesis. After entering infected cells, it is phosphorylated by viral thymidine kinase to aciclovir monophosphate and subsequently converted to the triphosphate form. The triphosphate competitively inhibits viral DNA polymerase, causing premature chain termination and preventing replication of herpes simplex virus DNA. This selective action limits viral spread while sparing uninfected host cells.

Topical aciclovir may cause local skin reactions, although many users experience no adverse effects.
