Horestyl (Loratadine)

Horestyl is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with common allergic conditions.

• Seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever), characterized by sneezing, nasal congestion, and itchy eyes.
• Perennial allergic rhinitis, with year‑round nasal itching, discharge, and congestion.
• Chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives), presenting as persistent itchy wheals and plaques.
• Allergic conjunctivitis, causing red, itchy, and watery eyes.
• General relief of allergy‑related itching, sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes caused by environmental allergens.
• Prevention of mild allergy symptoms during exposure to known triggers.

• Loratadine acts as a selective peripheral H1‑receptor antagonist. By binding to H1 receptors on mast cells, basophils, and other cells in the respiratory tract and skin, it blocks the action of histamine released during allergic reactions. This inhibition prevents the cascade that leads to vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, and sensory nerve stimulation, thereby reducing typical allergy symptoms without readily crossing the blood‑brain barrier, which limits central sedation.

Like most antihistamines, loratadine may cause unwanted effects, although many users experience none; most reactions are mild and resolve without treatment.

Common

• Headache, often mild and transient.
• Dry mouth or mild throat irritation.
• Fatigue or mild drowsiness, usually not impairing daily activities.
• Nausea or mild stomach discomfort.
• Upper respiratory tract infection‑like symptoms such as mild cough or congestion, and may be accompanied by mild fever.

Serious

• Severe skin rash or hives indicating possible allergic reaction.
• Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema) which may affect breathing.
• Rapid or irregular heartbeat (palpitations) requiring medical evaluation.
• Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath.
