Horestyl (Loratadine)

Horestyl is indicated for the temporary relief of symptoms caused by common allergic conditions.

• Relief of sneezing, nasal congestion, runny nose, and itchy or watery eyes associated with seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis.
• Reduction of itching, redness, and swelling of the skin in chronic or acute urticaria (hives).
• Alleviation of hay‑fever symptoms such as sneezing, nasal itching, and watery eyes during pollen exposure.
• Management of itching and mild skin irritation related to allergic reactions to insect bites or contact allergens.
• Supportive use in combination with other non‑sedating antihistamines for patients with multiple concurrent allergic triggers.

• Loratadine, the active component of Horestyl, selectively blocks peripheral H1 histamine receptors. By binding to the H1‑receptor sites on mast cells, basophils and other target cells, it prevents histamine from triggering the cascade that leads to vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, and sensory nerve stimulation. This peripheral antagonism reduces the development of typical allergic signs such as itching, swelling, and nasal congestion while minimally crossing the blood‑brain barrier, thereby limiting central nervous system effects.

Like other antihistamines, Horestyl may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and transient.

Common

• Headache, often mild and transient, not requiring treatment.
• Dry mouth or mild thirst, usually resolves with fluid intake.
• Slight drowsiness, usually not impairing daily activities or driving.
• Nausea, stomach discomfort, or mild abdominal cramps that subside after a short period.
• Dizziness or light‑headed feeling, typically brief and resolves without intervention.
• Insomnia or difficulty sleeping, which may improve after discontinuation.
• Blurred vision, generally temporary and not severe.

Serious

• Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) presenting with rash, facial or throat swelling, and difficulty breathing, which requires immediate medical attention.
• Cardiac arrhythmia or palpitations, which may require medical evaluation and monitoring.
• Liver enzyme elevation (rare), detected through laboratory testing and usually reversible after stopping the drug.

• Use with caution in patients with severe liver impairment; dose adjustment may be needed.
• Avoid use in children younger than the age specified on the product label.
