Humex (Benzydamine Hydrochloride)

Humex is indicated for the symptomatic relief of several common oral and pharyngeal conditions.

• Relief of sore throat associated with viral or mild bacterial infections.
• Treatment of pharyngitis to reduce pain and inflammation.
• Management of oral mucositis, especially in patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
• Soothing of minor mouth irritations after dental procedures or trauma.
• Alleviation of inflammatory lesions such as aphthous ulcers in the oral cavity.

• Benzydamine hydrochloride exerts its local anti‑inflammatory, analgesic and anesthetic actions by stabilising cell membranes, inhibiting the release of pro‑inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin‑1 and tumor necrosis factor‑α, and reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins at the site of application, thereby decreasing pain perception and swelling without significant systemic absorption.

Adverse reactions to Humex are generally mild and localized, but rare serious events can occur.

Common

• Transient burning or stinging sensation in the mouth or throat.
• Altered taste perception or metallic taste.
• Mild nausea or dyspepsia.
• Localised irritation or erythema of the oral mucosa.
• Headache.
• Dry mouth.

Serious

• Allergic reactions such as urticaria, angioedema or anaphylaxis.
• Severe skin rash or Stevens‑Johnson‑like reactions.
• Bronchospasm or respiratory distress.
• Hepatic dysfunction (elevated liver enzymes) reported rarely.
• Persistent or worsening oral ulceration.

• Limit use to the recommended short‑term period; prolonged application may increase risk of irritation.
• Keep the product out of reach of children; accidental ingestion can cause adverse effects.
