• Benzocaine, the active component of Hurricaine, exerts its local anesthetic effect by reversibly binding to voltage‑gated sodium channels on neuronal membranes. This binding stabilizes the inactive state of the channel, preventing the influx of sodium ions that is required for the generation and propagation of action potentials. By blocking nerve impulse conduction in the treated area, the sensation of pain is temporarily diminished.

Adverse reactions to Hurricaine are generally mild, but rare serious events have been reported.

Common
