Hydrocortisone Ovelle (Hydrocortisone)

Hydrocortisone Ovelle is indicated for the topical treatment of several inflammatory and pruritic skin conditions.

• Mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema) on the face, neck, or body
• Chronic plaque psoriasis lesions located on the scalp, elbows, knees, or trunk
• Contact dermatitis resulting from exposure to allergens or irritant substances
• Seborrheic dermatitis affecting the scalp, eyebrows, or nasolabial folds
• Localized skin reactions to insect bites, including swelling and itching
• Minor irritations such as sunburn, mild rash, or friction dermatitis

• Hydrocortisone Ovelle works by penetrating the epidermis and binding to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors. This receptor activation alters gene transcription, leading to reduced production of pro‑inflammatory cytokines and mediators. The resulting anti‑inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects decrease swelling, redness, and itching associated with various dermatologic conditions.

Adverse skin reactions may occur with topical hydrocortisone use.

Common

• Mild burning, stinging, or tingling sensation at the site of application
• Transient redness, irritation, or mild swelling that resolves within hours
• Dryness, flaking, or peeling of the treated skin area
• Persistent itching (pruritus) that may continue despite treatment

Serious

• Allergic contact dermatitis presenting as rash, swelling, or severe itching
• Skin atrophy or thinning with long‑term or extensive use
• Localized hypopigmentation or depigmentation of the skin
• Secondary infection of the skin by bacteria, fungi, or viruses

When using Hydrocortisone Ovelle, certain safety measures should be observed.

• Avoid use on broken or infected skin unless directed by a clinician
• Do not apply to large surface areas for extended periods without medical supervision
• Limit treatment duration to the shortest effective time to reduce risk of skin thinning
• Avoid occlusive dressings unless specifically instructed
