Hydrogalen (Hydrocortisone)

Hydrogalen is formulated for external use on the skin to manage a variety of mild inflammatory and pruritic conditions. It is commonly employed when a low‑potency corticosteroid is appropriate.

• Hydrocortisone, the active component of Hydrogalen, binds to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, forming a complex that translocates to the nucleus and modulates gene transcription. This action suppresses the synthesis of pro‑inflammatory cytokines, reduces vascular permeability, and inhibits leukocyte infiltration, resulting in decreased inflammation and immune response at the site of application.

Topical hydrocortisone can cause a range of local and systemic reactions, most of which are mild and reversible. Serious adverse events are uncommon but may occur with prolonged use or over large skin areas.
