Hydrogalen Akut (Hydrocortisone)

Hydrogalen Akut is commonly employed for short‑term relief of mild to moderate skin inflammation.

• Hydrocortisone exerts its anti‑inflammatory effect by binding to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors. The drug‑receptor complex translocates to the nucleus, where it interacts with glucocorticoid response elements and modulates gene transcription. This leads to decreased synthesis of prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and cytokines, and suppresses the activity of immune cells such as lymphocytes and macrophages, thereby reducing edema, erythema, and pruritus at the site of application.

Topical hydrocortisone may cause local skin reactions, and, rarely, systemic effects when used over large areas or for prolonged periods.

• Secondary bacterial, fungal or viral infection of the skin.

• Do not use under occlusive dressings unless directed by a healthcare professional.
• Limit treatment duration, typically not exceeding one to two weeks without medical review.
• Use the smallest effective amount to cover the affected area.
• Consult a physician before use in children, pregnant or breastfeeding individuals.
• Discontinue if signs of an allergic reaction or worsening skin condition occur.

Hydrocortisone can interact with other topical or systemic agents; awareness of these interactions helps prevent reduced efficacy or increased adverse effects.

Avoid

• Concurrent use of other potent topical corticosteroids on the same area.
• Application together with topical calcineurin inhibitors (e.g., tacrolimus) without medical guidance.
