Hydrokortison Evolan (Hydrocortisone)

Hydrokortison Evolan is commonly used for the topical treatment of several inflammatory and pruritic skin conditions.

• Hydrokortison Evolan exerts its effect by binding to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors in keratinocytes and immune cells. The receptor‑drug complex translocates to the nucleus, where it interacts with glucocorticoid response elements, altering gene transcription. This down‑regulates the synthesis of pro‑inflammatory cytokines, prostaglandins, and leukotrienes, while up‑regulating anti‑inflammatory proteins such as annexin‑1, resulting in reduced vascular permeability, edema, and immune cell activation at the site of application.

Topical hydrocortisone may cause local and, rarely, systemic adverse reactions.

Common

• Mild burning or stinging at the site of application
• Transient itching or dryness
• Local skin thinning (atrophy) with prolonged use

Serious

• Allergic contact dermatitis or severe skin irritation
• Secondary bacterial, fungal or viral infection of the treated area
• Systemic cortisol suppression when large areas are used extensively
