Hydroxycarbamid Hikma (Hydroxycarbamide)

Hydroxycarbamid Hikma is used in the management of hematologic disorders that involve abnormal cell proliferation.

• Hydroxycarbamide inhibits ribonucleotide reductase, the enzyme responsible for converting ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides. This blockade limits the pool of deoxyribonucleotides required for DNA synthesis, thereby slowing cell division and preferentially affecting rapidly proliferating malignant or abnormal hematopoietic cells.

Hydroxycarbamide may cause a range of adverse reactions, from mild to severe.
