Hyperol (Urea Hydrogen Peroxide)

Hyperol, a topical antiseptic, is applied to the skin to reduce microbial contamination and support wound hygiene.

• Pre‑operative skin preparation: reduces skin flora before minor surgical or diagnostic procedures.

• Urea hydrogen peroxide releases hydrogen peroxide and urea upon contact with the skin. The hydrogen peroxide generates reactive oxygen species that oxidatively damage microbial cell membranes and proteins, producing broad‑spectrum antimicrobial activity. Simultaneously, urea acts as a keratolytic agent, softening the stratum corneum and facilitating removal of debris and dead tissue.

Topical application of Hyperol may cause local skin reactions.

Common Side Effects

• Erythema: slight redness that usually resolves within hours.
• Itching: occasional pruritus without spreading.
• Burning sensation: brief discomfort during or after use.

• Severe skin necrosis: tissue death in extensive or prolonged exposure.
• Systemic hypersensitivity: rare anaphylactic reactions requiring immediate medical attention.
• Persistent ulceration: non‑healing wounds after repeated use.
• Phototoxic reaction: heightened sensitivity to light leading to rash.
• Secondary infection: overgrowth of resistant organisms if used on heavily colonised wounds.

When using Hyperol, consider the following safety measures.

• Allergy assessment: confirm the patient has no known hypersensitivity to hydrogen peroxide or urea.
• Wound assessment: avoid use on deep, puncture or heavily necrotic wounds.
• Pediatric use: apply only under professional supervision for children.
• Concurrent topical agents: do not combine with other oxidative or irritant preparations.
• Eye contact: keep product away from eyes; if accidental exposure occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
• Store at ambient temperature: keep in the original container, protect from light and moisture.
