Midazolam is a benzodiazepine that provides sedation and seizure control across several clinical settings.

This interaction increases the frequency of chloride channel opening in response to GABA, enhancing neuronal inhibition and producing sedative, anxiolytic, hypnotic and anticonvulsant effects throughout the central nervous system. The amplified inhibitory tone leads to decreased neuronal firing rates, contributing to the drug’s rapid onset of action when administered intravenously.
