• Hypromellose is a high‑molecular‑weight cellulose derivative that forms a thin, hydrophilic film on the cornea and conjunctiva. The polymer’s viscoelastic properties increase the residence time of the tear film, reducing evaporation and providing a lubricating barrier. By mimicking natural mucins, it enhances ocular surface wettability without pharmacologic activity, thereby supporting comfort and protecting against mechanical stress.

Hypromellose eye drops may be associated with ocular side effects, most of which are mild and transient.

Common Side Effects

• Transient blurred vision: temporary visual disturbance after instillation.
