Ibacut (Ibuprofen)

Ibuprofen acts systemically to control pain, fever and inflammatory processes.

• Pain: Provides analgesic relief for mild to moderate pain such as headache, dental pain, or musculoskeletal discomfort.
• Fever: Lowers elevated body temperature associated with febrile illnesses.
• Inflammation: Decreases inflammatory response in conditions such as arthritis or minor injuries.

• Ibuprofen non‑selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase‑1 (COX‑1) and cyclooxygenase‑2 (COX‑2) enzymes, which reduces the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins. Lower prostaglandin levels diminish peripheral sensitisation of nociceptors, lower the hypothalamic set‑point for temperature, and limit the inflammatory cascade, resulting in analgesic, antipyretic and anti‑inflammatory effects.

Adverse reactions may range from mild to severe and should be monitored during therapy.

Common Side Effects

• Nausea: mild stomach upset that often resolves with food.
• Dyspepsia: discomfort or burning sensation in the upper abdomen.
• Headache: transient tension‑type headache.
• Dizziness: occasional light‑headed feeling.
• Rash: mild skin redness or itching.
• Diarrhoea: loose stools without blood.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Gastrointestinal bleeding: black or tarry stools, vomiting blood.
• Peptic ulcer perforation: sudden severe abdominal pain.
• Renal impairment: reduced urine output, swelling.
• Severe allergic reaction: swelling of face or throat, difficulty breathing.
• Stevens‑Johnson syndrome: painful skin blisters and detachment.
• Hepatic injury: jaundice, dark urine, elevated liver enzymes.

Before initiating therapy, consider the following safety measures.

• Assess renal function: avoid or adjust dose in patients with significant kidney disease.
• Evaluate gastrointestinal risk: use cautiously in individuals with a history of ulcers or bleeding.
• Review cardiovascular status: NSAIDs may increase blood pressure or risk of thrombotic events.
• Monitor pregnancy: avoid unless clearly needed and prescribed by a healthcare professional.
• Check concomitant medications: avoid combinations that increase bleeding risk.
• Store at ambient temperature: keep below 25°C, retain in original packaging, protect from moisture and direct sunlight.

Ibuprofen can modify the effect of several other medicines.

Major Interactions (Avoid)

• Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin): increased risk of serious bleeding.
• High‑dose aspirin: heightened gastrointestinal toxicity.
• Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs): elevated bleeding tendency.

Moderate Interactions (Monitor Closely)

• ACE inhibitors or ARBs: possible reduction in renal function.
• Diuretics: may diminish diuretic efficacy and affect kidney function.
• Lithium: NSAIDs can raise lithium serum levels, risking toxicity.
