Ibalgin (Ibuprofen)

Ibalgin (ibuprofen) is applied topically to address pain and inflammation in the musculoskeletal system and related conditions.

• Minor joint inflammation: reduces swelling and improves mobility in affected joints.

• Ibuprofen exerts its effect by non‑selectively inhibiting cyclooxygenase‑1 (COX‑1) and cyclooxygenase‑2 (COX‑2) enzymes in peripheral tissues. This inhibition decreases the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins, which are mediators of pain, fever and inflammation. When applied to the skin, the drug penetrates locally, achieving sufficient concentrations to suppress prostaglandin synthesis at the site of application while minimizing systemic exposure.

Topical ibuprofen may cause local and systemic adverse reactions, most of which are mild and reversible.

• Check for allergy to ibuprofen or other NSAIDs before use: hypersensitivity can lead to severe reactions.
