• Ibandronic acid binds selectively to hydroxyapatite crystals at sites of active bone remodeling. When osteoclasts attach to the drug‑coated bone surface, the bisphosphonate is internalized, disrupting the mevalonate pathway, inducing osteoclast apoptosis and thereby inhibiting bone resorption, resulting in a net increase in bone mineral density over time.
