Ibandronic Acid Ingen Pharma is a bisphosphonate used to manage bone‑resorptive disorders.

• Postmenopausal osteoporosis: reduces the risk of vertebral and non‑vertebral fractures in women after menopause.
• Male osteoporosis: helps maintain bone density and lowers fracture incidence in men with osteoporosis.
• Paget's disease of bone: normalises abnormal bone remodeling and alleviates associated pain.

• Ibandronic acid binds avidly to hydroxyapatite crystals in bone, becoming incorporated into the mineral matrix. When osteoclasts resorb bone containing the drug, ibandronate is released intracellularly, inhibiting farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase in the mevalonate pathway. This disruption induces osteoclast apoptosis, thereby decreasing bone resorption and stabilising bone mass.

Common Side Effects

• Gastrointestinal irritation: dyspepsia, abdominal pain, or nausea.

• Skin reactions: rash or pruritus.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Osteonecrosis of the jaw: persistent exposed bone in the oral cavity.
• Atypical femoral fractures: low‑energy fractures of the subtrochanteric region.
• Severe hypersensitivity: anaphylaxis or angioedema.
• Acute renal impairment: sudden decline in kidney function.
• Electrolyte disturbances: hypocalcaemia or hypophosphatemia.

Moderate Interactions (Monitor Closely)

• Non‑steroidal anti‑inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): may increase risk of upper GI ulceration.
