• Ibandronic Acid binds selectively to hydroxyapatite crystals on bone surfaces undergoing active remodeling. When osteoclasts attach to the drug‑coated bone, the molecule is internalized and inhibits farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase in the mevalonate pathway, disrupting prenylation of small GTP‑binding proteins essential for osteoclast function, leading to reduced bone resorption. The effect is sustained because the drug remains bound to bone matrix for months, providing prolonged inhibition of resorption with intermittent dosing.
